Let us not forget Hermain Cain's attempt at trying to achieve GOP pick for POTUS. I had a little hope that this Morehouse Alum would support issues that I care about. However, his anti-Muslim, anti-abortion, anti-Mexican immigrant stance completely turned me off. The only thing that stood out for me was the 999 plan but one issue can not be a reason for me to vote anyway...of course I wouldn't be voting for him anyway!!! 2012 belongs to our current POTUS. Nonetheless I felt bad that he got caught up in an affair scandal. I didn't think he should have gone out that way. I respect any black man who tries to at least make a run for the presidency. (Reflect back to Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton)

Meanwhile..with the NBA season started off later than usual the Lakers are not doing well in my opinion. Their back-t0-back losses are leaving me disappointed. They have to readjust to their new players and I miss Lamar Odom already. As usual during these losses, Kobe continues doing his job leading the team in 30 to 40 points. I have respect him for always being a team player. Well see how things continue to go for #LakersTeam as the season goes on. Lakers still lead in their division 10-7.

Since my teams (Packers and Saints) were knocked out...I'm not really that thrilled to watch the rest of the NFL Season...I do feel like the 49ers are going to make a statement this weekend. My predictions for the AFC go with the Patriots but that really isn't saying much. It would be awesome to see the Giants advance to the Superbowl...the spotlight is on them.

Right now everyone except Serena (she plays later on) is preparing for their Round of 16 match.

Federer and Nadal will have to face each other either in Quarters since they are in the same draw. I hope there are no upsets before that point. Things get tricky for all veterans after the 4th round. Anything can happen. Defending champions Clijsters and Djokovic are the ones to look out for.

2012 South Carolina primaries leave the field uncertain for Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich is pushing his way into the field again. Honestly I think most of the Republican candidates are not relevant. Nonetheless, it makes for decent political conversation.

I am against PIPA AND SOPA and I hope you all fight against it as well. I called my senator Dick Durbin and let their office know how I felt. I suggest you all do the same. 2011 Review

It's been a LONG year I must say. I will be brief going through highlights of certain things.

Top Ten Events for 2011:

10. European recession 2008-Present

Throughout Europe, Greece, Italy, United Kingdom, and Spain, there have been protests for various reasons. With the exception of the England riots (also known as the London riots) there have been protests because of severe budget cuts, and overall debt crises that have occurred. RIP Mark Duggan. President of France Nicolas Sarkozy and German Chancellor Angela Markel have been recently making progress for assisting the countries who are currently in need of financial dependency.

9. Death of Osama bin Laden

Head of al-Qaeda operations Osama bin Mohammed bin Awad bin Laden was killed by US Navy Seals on May 2nd, 2011 in Abbottabad, Pakistan. For some, President Obama received a lot of praise for this critical operation. Critics have been concerned that bin Laden's death would revitalize al-Qaeda operatives and their agenda. President Obama stated in a press conference that the US would remain vigilant toward al-Qaeda in the future. I agree that we should.

8. My master's graduation

M.A. in African-American studies with a non-thesis option. Enough said.

7.NBA Lockout

Five months of deadlock with NBA players and the association only to delay the season and leave LA Lakers fans like me disgruntled and uncertain of their season.

6. Occupy movement

Protests throughout the metropolitans cities such as New York City, Atlanta, San Diego, Seattle, Chicago, Portland, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Miami, Phoenix, Denver, DC and others. The 99% are rising up. Are you?

5. Death of Steve Jobs

CEO and co-Founder of Apple dies at 56. The world will never forget his innovative capabilities of current cell phone technology. RIP.

4. Death of Heavy D

Rapper Heavy D--Jamaican born dies at age 44. He was definitely doing his thing during the 90s and he will always be remembered. RIP bruh.

3. Death of Kim Jong-il

3 weeks and 3 days ago the supreme leader of North Korea passed on. Many days of mourning transpired including a significant member of South Korean government allowed to partake in the mourning process. His son Kim Jong-un will take over as supreme leader.

2. Arab Spring revolution

The highlight of the news, media and the worldwide web, the Arab Spring is what changed the landscape of protests for 2011. The spark of the revolution came in 2010, when a man in Tunisia set himself on fire in protest of former President Ben Ali.

1. US economy

Congress has really been the worst I've seen in a long time. Personally I think everyone needs to be fired. These close deadlines that have almost caused the government to shut down are BEYOND PATHETIC. Republican and Democrats in office are no longer respected. How can respect individuals that don't care about its citizens? With many still unemployed and no sign of any changes, it is scary what 2012 will hold for Americans.

Awkward Black Girl

The overtly Awkward protagonist J steals the show by showcasing her life as an awkward black girl. The brilliance and hilarious acting bring to life something we all can connect to: embarrassingly awkward moments. I originally found out about this when some of my female classmates brought it up in a class discussion. I didn't look into it until much later. I haven't regretted viewing it ever since. Not only do I watch it everyday (I have downloaded episodes 1-11 on my MacBook Pro and iPod), but my friend Jeremy and I text each other funny quotes from the show. If you guys have not watched the show, I SERIOUSLY RECOMMEND YOU CHECK IT OUT!!! This show has definitely been a stress-reliever for me. Everyone is anticipating the finale on January 12th.

A Weekend of Reflection, Meditation, and Growth

Night at FrontPage News with the fellas. Fun Times!

I had a chance to get away from the city and relax, meditate, and reflect on my life. I gave the trip a B-. The time I enjoyed the most was my time on the river. I was in tune with nature and I allowed my emotions to sync with the wind as it blew. My iPod plus the sights and sounds of the river equalled a beautiful experience. I had compiled a playlist before I had arrived at my destination. I played many of those songs. I would love to just make a trip up there with some brothers just to stay at the river for an hour or two and just meditate. I think it would give many of us some peace and relaxation which is something that often falls short in this failing economy. What gives me strength the most is when I can enjoy of space of complete repose. Thanks to all my brothers for making my weekend another moment to remember.

Beyonce's Countdown, Weekend Pride Blast, Sports Update, and Featured Album of the Month

Hey everyone. So I can't believe the whole weekend this is the only picture I took of me and my friend Raphie. Oh well lol. I had a good time hanging out with him and his friends. Shoutout to Mei! I haven't hung out with a non-black female in a LONG TIME (since undergrad) so it was interesting to do so this time around. Another Pride weekend that is gone. I didn't participate in the parade (I had too many bags and I needed to take them home) but I heard it was great (despite the crappy weather).

Now Beyonce's Countdown cute and colorful video is all the rave and you know I had to briefly discuss it. The variety of shots, poses, choreographed dance moves Beyonce rocked definitely caught my attention. So much that when I first saw it I kept watching it like five or six times. I have always been attracted to videos that are colorful, cute, and involve dance moves. Of course, she is doing all of this while she is pregnant which makes it even more extraordinary. Hopefully by now she is resting and taking it easy as the pregnancy goes along.

Meanwhile in the NFL, going into week 6 the defending champs Green Bay Packers are 5-0 as they face the Rams this weekend. Meanwhile in the bottom of the bucket, both the Atlanta Falcons and the Chicago Bears are struggling with a 2-3 game standing. I haven't been able to watch much of the actually games but the updates at least give me an idea of the teamss I like and how they are doing. By the way #TeamWhoDat (New Orleans Saints) are 4-1 coming into Week 6 and their only loss came to the Packers. They will play the Bucs on Sunday.

I would talk about tennis but as I checked for updates I find out Nadal lost to Florian Mayer in the Shanghai Rolex Masters in the 3rd round. It looks like Andy Murray still has a chance to defend his title from last year. In the women's game, someone I don't care about has been winning the last few tourneys and other than that I don't really care. I think I'll just wait until January before I post again about tennis. If one of my favorites win the Barclays ATP World Tour Final then maybe I'll consider posting then.

The featured album of the month that is currently pushing me forward through these troubled times is A Tribe Called Quest's Beats, Rhymes, & Life. My favorite tracks are: What Really Goes On, Word Play, The Hop, 1nce Again, and Stressed Out (this version is bad-ass). That's all for now. I'll be on vacay (finally) in a couple of weeks and I CANNOT WAIT. I'll be taking tons of pics then too. Later.

What's going on bloggers? Now I know everyone has been wondering where the hell I've been? Well over the summer after graduation I went home and worked toward the latter end. I'm back working on my doctorate. I bought a new MacBook Pro and iPod (32 gb). I still have a ways to go in terms of where I wanna be but I am just grateful to be back in the A among the brothers.

I would go on talking about tennis but this year 2011 has been a horrible time for my favorites (i.e. Roger Federer, Serena Williams, and Rafael Nadal). No one is doing good on my side so I've been detached from both ATP and WTA activity. I know it sucks.

It will be interesting once the NBA season starts to see how the rookies on the Lakers come out...#TeamKobe all day.

I'll go into the explanation of my long hiatus in another post. In the meantime, I want to share with you the current things I am watching right now.

1. Nicki Minaj's New video "Super Bass"

I must admit I like this video more than any other video by her. It is cute, sexy, and colorful. And I used to dance in undergrad so you know I love when they go in on the choreography.

2. Chris Brown "She Ain't You" (Dedicated to Michael Jackson RIP)

The dedication to Michael Jackson is so beautiful. The video mostly screams Chris Brown but there are plenty of things that Chris does in the video that are reminiscent of MJ. My boy Wesley can give you further details on that. The track stems from Michael Jackson's Human Nature track which came out in 1982.

3. LiveDance100 (@livedance100 Twitter)

These are some black young female dancers! I respect female dancers and this hits home when it comes to these girls because they are from the A!

4. J Alvarez - Junto Al Amanecer (Waking Up Together)

This is a Reggaeton artist from Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico

I like the video because it keeps reminding me that summertime is right around the corner.

Everyone knows I am #TeamLakers and I am very upset they are 0-2 against the Dallas Mavericks in the conference Semi-Finals. Tonight they have to win this game. My classmate thinks they will have to take it to Game 7. I hope not but the way things are going, that may have to happen. Kobe scored 23 points in Game 2.

5. LastO-My Song

The Album: Charm The Campaign Vol. 1 will be out VERY SOON according to LastO himself. LastO is the hottest black gay male artist out right now. After his debut album "Not For Non Profit" came out I was hooked. Fellas please check out his single "My Song."

These are things that encouraging me right now as I officially wrap up this semester and this Master's degree. It's been a long road. This is it for now. I'll try to come back on here tomorrow but I don't want to make any promises. Until next time.

I spilled some soda on the only personal computer I had left.
I'm sick of school.
I'm running out of money.
Somehow I am still standing.

I wrote a poem called Destiny. I haven't wrote a poem in a couple years.

Hey Bloggers.
So I know I've been MIA for quite sometime ... AGAIN. Last semester as some of you know was very stressful but I managed to do well and I'm back at it. This is supposed to be my last semester at CAU and right now I'm trying to create options for myself so that I can have an idea of what I am doing post-graduation. I'm still working on my non-thesis which is the "Construction of black gay male identity in James Baldwin's Go Tell It on the Mountain and E. Lynn Harris' Invisible Life." Tomorrow will be my first day of Capstone II which is the second half of my non-thesis. Wish me luck.

Meanwhile, in PH.D. "application-land"...I applied to Northwestern and and will find out a decision in February or March. As soon as I get my funds I will also apply to CAU Doctoral Program of Arts and Humanities. I'm not sure if I still want to apply to GSU's History Dept but I will keep that in mind nonetheless.

Besides school, I've been having some computer problems (e.g. my Macbook Pro monitor needs to be replaced and that is going to cost between $450-500 according to the outsourcing company Apple works with called Onyx). The Dell computer I borrowed from the school got a virus on it and they told me last Friday that the hard drive needs to be replaced (hopefully I'll get that back on Wednesday or Thursday). So I have no working computer currently in my room which sucks ALOT. I remain optimistic about my computer situation. I just have to be patient.

I've been on Facebook more often than usual. Currently I just get on to check messages and updates and get back off. It will be more frequent once I get the Dell back.
Meanwhile in sports, I watched the NFL playoffs and watched the Atlanta Falcons and Chicago Bears lose to the Packers. Nothing would bring me more joy than to see the Packers lose to the Steelers but we shall see when the Super Bowl comes on...

The Australian Open came and went with Novak Djokovic winning his second Australian Open and leaving Roger Federer's Grand Slam career in doubt. Did you guys see how Rafael Nadal lost to Ferrer due to injury?! Ouch I mean who was expecting that? But we were expecting Venus to lose in the 3rd round right? Yeah...moving on...Kim Clijsters steam-rolled to the Finals and won but I wasn't surprised. The Women's draw sucks really bad. Caroline Woniacki lost to Li Na (WTF) and Vera Z...(**crickets**) ENOUGH SAID. Andy Murray needs to get it together if he is going to be seen as a serious competitor in the ATP Tour. He needs to win a Grand Slam for the Brits. I think he is capable but he will definitely have to get past Novak to achieve that.

In the NBA...The Celtics defeated the Lakers last night 109-96. This is big for the Celtics. I love the Lakers but they know the Celtics are not playing around this year. They are in the hunt. The San Antonio Spurs with the best record in the NBA thus far (40-7) play Portland tomorrow night. That should be an easy win. Surprisingly, Chicago is the leader in the Central conference with a 33-14 record. They defeated the Pacers on Saturday and they face the LA Clippers on Wednesday. That should be a good game.

1 month and 2 weeks later...

Fall 2010 semester has indeed been a stressful one. Right now things remain hopeful with one of my choices for candidacy in a doctoral program at Northwestern University. My other two choices for applying with deadlines are CAU and Georgia State. I'd rather stay in Atlanta than return back home. We shall see...

I passed both my classes but I'm still awaiting the verdict of my comprehensive exams. The worst case scenario is that I would have to retake them. Hopefully there may be another option to defend a question in orals if my score was low.

Right now I am enjoying my break. Today marks a great day of celebration as my cousin Alisha is walking across the stage this afternoon double majoring in Communications and African-American-Studies from Western Illinois University. Pics will come at a later post.

I just had to update my site because I know you've all been wondering where I've been. I'm still here. There's been so much going on with school and now basically reconciling with my ex.

I'm sure a few are doing a double-take at that last sentence. Yes I attempted to be in my first relationship which ended very quickly but now he and I are talking again.

Sabbatical.

There has been alot going on with me lately. I have been applying to doctoral programs, studying for comprehensive exams, and getting my head leveled from all the prevailing stress that continues to plague my life. My first priority is school and it has taken up alot of my time and will continue to do so for the next few weeks.

I am currently in a state of anguish, anger, and fear. Rightly so considering that this is supposed to be my last year of my master's program. I need find some answers to the prolonged questions of where my next journey is...whether it is continuing on with my education or doing something else.

Kobe Bryant gives me strength is how he excels in the NBA and shows how much he is a team player. Of course he is one example of the many I have of those who give me strength.

Charlotte Pride

Birthday Celebrations: Happy Birthday To Me!

On July 3rd I went to an associate's get together for his birthday. His birthday was July 6th.

My 26th birthday was the following day but I didn't do much. I went bought a couple of shirts from Abercrobmie and Fitch, grabbed my cupcakes from Cami Cakes, and went to California Pizza Kitchen for dinner. It was a great opportunity to have some "me" time. On Thursday evening, I went to the Cheesecake Factory with my friends...the girl serving us was apparently too busy serving others to pay us much attention. Of course, she still received a tip after leveling herself back in the rally toward the end of our meal.

My informal 26th birthday celebration came on Saturday with my boys buying me a cake and we chilled at my boi Kendrick's. I appreciated all those who came: Ian, Lamont, Vincent, girl from Loyola in New Orleans, and Darius. Thanks a bunch!

July 4th, Wimbledon Wrap-Up

Hey guys. So the 4th of July was nothing spectacular for me. I hung out with the fellas at a cookout and I enjoyed seeing friends and Twitter peeps alike there. Other familiar faces came through as well and overall it was great.

2010 Wimbledon was a magnificent performance. The tournament was filled with upsets (Federer, Venus Williams, Serena and Venus in doubles, and the Bryan brothers in doubles), yet the world number ones stayed on top of their games.

Defending Champion Serena Williams defeats Vera Zvonareva 6-3, 6-2. Serena claims her 4th title and 13th overall major title.

2008 Wimbledon Champ Rafael Nadal defeats Tomas Berdych 6-3, 7-5, 6-4.

None of can forget the longest Wimbledon match between John Isner and Nicholas Mahut with Isner being the victor in the final set 70-68.

Leander Paes making history by becoming the second man to win Wimbledon titles in three different decades. Leander Paes and Cara Black defeat Woodie and Lisa Raymond 6-4, 7-5 in mixed doubles.

Meanwhile Vania King and Yaroslava Shvedova win the Ladies Doubles title.

It was great to see some old faces in the tournament as well such as Martina Hingis, Kournikova, Justine Henin, Kim Clijsters (in singles and mixed doubles).

And we cannot forget the Queen Elizabeth's visit to Wimbledon after a 33-year absence.

The top-seeded players in 2010 have been tested with some passing and others flopping out. The U.S. Open will probably be another tournament of upsets and unseeded players finally getting the glory. Only time will tell what will unfold next.

Hey I wanted to post pics from last weekend's going-away party for my friend KB. I really enjoyed meeting KB's friends and his boyfriend's family. I also really enjoyed the love I received from the brothers on my completion of school. Brotherhood is what it is all about and their support is greatly appreciated.

There are only two champions who remain and those are the current world number 1 players.

What is really going on people? Okay so right now I am in summer school away from home chillin in the A. Classes are going well. (I am taking French as well as a directed study with my professor. I have so much to do before fall semester rears its ugly head. I need to study and take the GRE over, study for the comprehensive exam, and choose what schools I want to apply to.

So far here is my list:

Harvard University
University of California-Berkeley (for both African Diaspora and Ethnic Studies)

University of Massachusetts-Amherst

This list will be reduced and I will probably put my current institution as the backup. (Hopefully I won't have to recant that statement)

My plans on attending a conference should be under way as soon as I get my abstract together and sent. I hope what I send will get accepted so I can present in October at UCLA. We shall see. That is all for now folks.

I now own a Samsung Gravity 2 and I'm okay with that. My Blackbery got water damaged after I took it into the shower with me accidentally.

2010 NBA Finals Champions: Los Angeles Lakers (Back to Back Champions)

Kobe had a rough night when they won and needed his teammates to step up. Gasol, Artest, and Fisher sure did step up at critical points to give them the win after being down 13 points at the half. Favorite line from the NBA Commentator during game Game 6: What can Brown do for you? I was wearing my Black Kobe shirt during Game 7 and I plan to order one of the championship shirts from the NBA Store's website.

2010 Wimbledon is here! I am uber excited about the tournament and I have been following it since yesterday's first-round matches started. Top-seeded players Serena and Venus have made it to the second round in this tournament and everyone is watching them since they are the favorites to go to the finals. Meanwhile, all eyes are on Rafael Nadal the 2010 French Open champion and #1 Ranked player. Will we see a Federer-Nadal final? It's too early to tell.

We were all expecting A Federer-Nadal Final and found it shocking when Soderling took him out in the Quarterfinals. Of course by the time Nadal reached the final I knew he would win. The women's draw was pure luck for Schiavone. After Dementieva retired in the Semis, that sent Schiavone to the finals. Samantha Stosur took out Henin and Serena Williams and still lost to Schiavone! This was one tipsy-topsy women's singles final! Too bad Schiavone was ousted in the first round of Wimbledon. Of course I was expecting it anyway.

Greg--Good Luck at Northwestern or Harvard. Whatever institution you pick I know you will work hard just as you have already exemplified at Morehouse.
David--I wish you success and endurance at your new job in St. Louis as a teacher of French and the sciences. You have dream job that many people would die for. I know you are grateful for this opportunity presented to you.
Chris--I wish you well at Notre Dame. Grad school presents new challenges that undergrad sometimes prepares you for. Remember there is always a light out of the tunnel.

Brother Cornel West. Astute philosopher, servant of the community, professor, prophetic healer, bluesman, Chekhovian Christian, and one great man who I highly admire.

I wrote a paper where I critique him thoroughly after reading about him and researching for one of my graduate courses. Indeed even after this strong critique or what some may call an "intellectual read" I have no qualms about what the man has accomplished. I understand the world West is forced to live around. Indebted to the Ivy League institutions he creates a tightrope as a balancing act to accommodate multiple audiences in which he speaks. It was a pleasure hearing him and meeting him last year at Emory University and I hope I can meet him again in the future.

Unraveling: Never Enough Time.

It is never enough time for anything these days. I shouldn't be typing this blog because I'm supposed to be working on something else.

There is always graduate work, or having to look for a job (because MANY Americans are unemployed), or going to the library or going to class.
For some of you, there is the kids, and taking the kids to the sitter's house, going to work, picking up your spouse, paying bills, dealing with family and their money woes, dealing with family LIVING with you, etc.

LIVING Life in America then becomes STRESSFUL to the point where no one has time for anybody. We all want to unravel quite frequently because a schedule is not always the best thing for me specifically.

I know I want to do study abroad and I have been talking to my classmate's mother about it so I will look into it. I really need a break and I seriously need to consider how a career in another country or some work there could help me...these are still thoughts being processed in my head at this point. We all deserve as Americans to be able to unravel more! It makes me feel some kind of way the way we all operate like machines all day.

Weekend Blast, Duke Grabs its 4th Title

So I'm trying to get in the habit of getting back on here. I've been neglecting you all and I do apologize for it. I'm waiting for my camera battery to charge so I can get the remaining pics to continue on my other post which I should have posted two weeks ago. Oh well lol. On to the next one!

This weekend was an amazing adventure. Shoutout to my Morehouse brothers for making my weekend so great. Lamont(@backtothecity), Greg (@smartygreg) and David (@francais321)

Friday--Went out to Club Miami and Georgia Peach with my bros. Club Miami was awesome with mostly lesbians surrounding us but we really got down! At the Peach hosted by WassupNATL Fantasia and Keke Wyatt were in attendance! Keke sang but Fantasia just chilled in VIP. It was good seeing @DarielLoves and @KingLandon86 at the Peach. My frat brother and his friend were also in attendance.

My favorite Tweet on that night was from @smartygreg: "That was hot."

Then my reply back was @JamarHerrod: "Indeed."

We danced our asses off and I thoroughly enjoyed it. We went to the Waffle House (the first next to Tiffany's but then we left and went to the one in Midtown) and ate some food. Some "stud?" I think) got arrested and a twitter friend who I am planning to unfollow was there with their "entourage" which I could even care LESS ABOUT. No Shade just being truthful. Arrived in the AUC at 5am to snooze and enjoy the ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ.

Saturday-- Morehouse bros and I excluding David went bowling at MetroLanes. Did very crappy not realizing that I needed a heavier ball 11+ and we did not finish our second game because we ran out of time. That surely pissed me off. We ended up eating at the 24-hour diner Downtown and discussed how zodiac signs and I did not realize that Greg and I are both Cancers but the distinction is that he's a June cancer and I am July. Go figure. Greg walked me back to my residence hall. I know he's such a GENTLEMAN.

Sunday--I walked around Piedmont Park with my frat brother and his friend. Afterwards we went to the Flying Biscuit and the server was RUDE and had us waiting for 15 mins after we placed our orders. She received NO TIP. That's right. That food was delicious by the way (I ordered Bangers & Mac) but the service was CRAP. We went to Blake's across the street to have some drinks and the liquor was STRONG in those little cups. I bought a Tequila Sunrise and Blue Mothafucka and received a free heavily liquored JELLO SHOT. That's right. JELLO SHOT. We stayed outside and watched all the white guys and black specs (blacks around whites lol).

Overall it was a great weekend.

Without disclosing everything I was trying to join a particular organization on campus. I realized that it was unnecessary to join because it did not fit who I was. Since I have already established who I am I did not see the need to re-invent the wheel.

Out with the Boys at Emory and Deeper Love Project, Sports Highlights, Prayers to Haiti

So last weekend I went to visit my friend Raphael at Emory. At the top is where he resides which is Clairmont Campus. Last semester I only saw him twice but this time around I got the chance to spend some time with him. We met Raphy's friend Michael (cute Latino) on campus and walked On the right is a restaurant called Zaya's and I purchased some cheese fingers which were really good. They also served some cheesecake but I wasn't willing to pay 3.99 for a slice. It did look good though.

The pic on the left was taken at Zaya's also. We walked from Zaya's to Michael's house where I met his roommate Tom. Tom is real cool and he plays bass guitar. The drums on your right belong to another roommate who didn't arrive yet. I took a turn at playing the drums and I actually had a good time testing it out! I understand now how much work it takes in playing the drums. When I hung out with Tom and Michael, it reminded me of my days in undergrad when I had dialogue with other races in class, work, or within the organizations I was apart of. They have an Asian roommate who is a doctor...he looked quite young too like he just graduated with his M.D. They have another roommate who was a Jew but they called him "Dirty Jew." I don't why they call him that. **Shrugs**They have quite a good mix of races as you can see which is rare but good nonetheless. Raphy and I were drinking some gin and tonic. Raphael said it tasted like a bad Sprite. I thought it tasted like water mixed with grapefruit with a bad aftertaste...Later we made a run to McDonald's and I grabbed a McChicken and small fry. Michael bought some Mad Dog from the store and I first I thought it would taste disgusting but later when I took a few swigs, I was not bad at all! Michael called it "Hobo Wine." I can see how someone could get messed up drinking that. Ralphy told me stories about when he got drunk and one time passed out. I have never gotten so drunk that I passed out. After we left Tom and Michael's place, we traveled back to Raphy's place. We watched television for a while and Michael gave me and Raphy back massages which felt really good!!! Raphy stated that Michael said he is straight but him and I both know he is curious. I had a great time chillin with Raphael and hope we can do it again in the near future. He is supposed to be attending Mardi Gras in New Orleans next month with some friends.

Earlier in the week, I took a survey where I received a $25 Target Card and participated in a focus group which was sponsored by the Rollins School of Public Health At Emory. The Group was entitled, "Barriers to Participating in HIV Prevention Research among Men who have Sex with Men." This was my first time ever being apart of a focus group but it was interesting nonetheless. After member of Deeper Love finished with the focus group, we traveled down to Midtown, first to Caribou Coffee then to Outwrite. Above is the pic of a delicious cold mocha drink I bought at Caribou. We had a very stimulating and intellectual dialogue after we traveled back to Caribou since Outwrite closed. Some of the topics included, Lady Gaga, Beyonce, US politics, religion, the history of SGL friendly cafes, and world politics. I was very grateful to be apart of this thrilling conversation with my brothers and made sure we could connect via Facebook.

Feeding The Homeless,Weekend Fun, Cool Kids, Mild Politics, Basketball

Hey what's going on everyone? Happy New Year to all my readers and I hope you all are claiming peace and renewal in 2010! This past weekend on Saturday was great. First I got the opportunity to participate in a monthly event called "First Saturday Feed The Homeless" where a group of folks come together every month, purchase food items, go to a location where the homeless in Atlanta occupy, and pass out food and clothing. I was shocked by the number of black men who were homeless. Nonetheless, I was very grateful to be apart of helping others less fortunate! Above are the pictures which I took on my phone and camera of the preparation and the distribution of the food. If anyone who is in Atlanta is interested in participating in this event let me know by commenting or sending a message on here, Twitter, or Facebook.

Afterwards, my friend took me out to Oliver Garden and I enjoyed this lovely platter below:

This was the Chicken Parmiagiana. Absolutely Delicious! And so was that raspberry lemonade.
The rest of the weekend, I went over some acquaintances' house and enjoyed their company along with a little wine. Good times indeed. It is always good to engage in a stimulating conversation along with a nice drink.

Meanwhile...The Cool Kids came out with some songs for the holidays in collaboration with Don Cannon. Charlie Rose talked with Former Secretary Department of Homeland Security Michael Chertoff and Jeff Zeleny in their discussion of Obama's press conference on attempted terrorist attack on the Northwest Airline flight to Detroit on Christmas. Zeleny felt Obama was coming out strong in his address on the error by Intelligence to prevent the incident which occurred. However for those of you who watch Anderson Cooper 360, Cooper stated "Whos Responsible?" and wanted to know who was to blame and why no one has been fired after this. In addition Anderson also mentioned the 3rd uninvited guest at the White House dinner being discovered which would add to the further breach of security for the President. I feel the White House dinner and the attempted terrorist attack on the Northwest flight should be separated. I'm pretty sure that are different directors who hold responsibilities over both White House events and something as big as Terrorist Watch List and I'm sure Obama and his administration have discussed both issues. I don't think automatically firing someone will change the issues of breach of security. Chertoff on Charlie Rose discusses the difficulties of security measures being implemented within the country and outside. What is most important is that he mentioned that this was a wake-up call for the Obama administration and hopefully this will step up security overall. What do you guys feel about it? Let me know.

Jamar's 2009 Review

2009 has finally come down to its conclusion. Let us all take a big deep SIGH. Whewwwwwww. Indeed it has been a struggle for everyone and I must say that I am grateful to be still alive and endured to another year to write a review. Let us give thanks to God, Allah, Buddha, or whomever you look towards as a higher power.

At the beginning of 2009, I was entering my first semester as a graduate student. After recently graduating from my alma mater Eastern Illinois University, I put myself in a position to continue on my goal towards becoming a professor. Here I am transitioning from a predominately white institution toward a historically black institution. Among students at the WASPY school, a black student is always aware of his race as his isolation is encompassed everyday with being the only student in class. This predominately white environment allows for a black gay man to have more leeway in expressing his sexuality in ways that would are scrutinized at HBCUs. A black gay male is unbothered by others since neither him nor the other races pay him any attention.

Transition to a HBCU where I notice undergraduates are competing in a fashion show every semester as they prance around on campus trying to see who looks better. A very interesting environment but unfortunately I discovered that some appear to be very shallow-minded and stuck in their appearances and not a person’s character. Blah. I was trying to make a new groove into both Atlanta and Clark.

Meanwhile in politics, President Obama was being thoroughly examined by the public as everyone took in his first 100 days of office. High expectations were expected from Obama who had just been inaugurated in January. Indeed, the historical moment of America electing their first black president was fading.

2009 Deaths hit close to home as my Aunt Jonnie left this earth:
RIP Aunt Jonnie—my aunt who died from complications of pancreatic cancer. The oldest of my mother’s sisters, and was parent to my twin nieces. We all love you and miss you Aunt Jonnie.

In March, One of the first well-known figures passed away:
John Hope Franklin—One of the most distinguished and accomplished African-American professors who among the greats such as DuBois and Booker T. Washington. He lived a long life. I didn’t find out about him until his death but from what I know he is an overachiever to say the least. RIP Dr. Franklin.

Towards the latter part of my first semester, I met the Cool Kids! At Standard in ATL and snap some shots with my classmate’s camera. That was definitely the best!

As the summer began, we all watched the LA Lakers win their 15th NBA Final Series 4-1 over the Orlando Magic.

June brought home the following individuals:

Michael Jackson- One of the greatest music artists of all-time. What can be said about him that already hasn’t been said? No one can replicate what this man put together for 40 years. His music will live on with future generations. We love you MJ.

Also at the end of June we watched in embarrassment the BET Awards and its pathetic remembrance for Michael Jackson. That will be last time watching that mess…the only thing worth noting was Maxwell’s excellent performance! Maxwell during this time was just coming back with his new album Blacksummers’ Night.

Followed by a shocker in July the month of my birthday:
E. Lynn Harris-our brother, author, and greatest admirer. His literature created a safe haven for black gay individuals and allowed his readers to read every page without stopping. His books have helped me become even stronger as a black gay man and indeed I am forever grateful I met him. His legacy and contribution spread across all communities and we all miss him dearly.

By the end of the summer, many Americans were solemn, broke, and jobless wondering when this recession would cease making our lives miserable.
The fall semester was approaching and I was ready to head back to school. I watched Serena win her third Wimbledon title edging her sister Venus Williams in the final. I continued watching the US Open Series in hopes Serena and Roger Federer would win the US Open. I was sadly mistaken.

By September two young individuals went home as well:
Jasmine Lynn-The Spelman student who was accidently shot and killed outside of my residence hall earlier this semester. RIP Ms. Lynn
Derrion Albert-The boy from Chicago who was killed among chaotic fighting which occurred on the streets of Chicago. I’ve written posts about him.

At the beginning of this month was Black Pride in Atlanta and this was my time attending any pride event. I enjoyed meeting, eating, and talking with fellow YouTubers and bloggers,
some I knew and others I was meeting for the first time.

Let us not forget the infamous XemVanAdams who I did not get enough time hanging out with when he came to Atlanta. Nonetheless, I was grateful for his presence and I hope we can meet again in the future.

The next shocker took me back of those who went on in 2009:
Tye Allen-My facebook brother who I didn’t even know died until someone had a RIP on his page…I miss him already. Gone too soon. RIP

We all will remember this year’s VMAs with the notable mentions being the stars of the hour:

The latter part of the year was just a continuation of tragic losses:
Fort Hood tragedies—The brave American soldiers who risked their lives to save their comrades while another fellow soldier took the lives of 12. RIP and your contribution to our country won’t be forgotten. That is the most important thing to remember about this tragedy overall.

4 police officers killed in Washington—Indeed, I could not believe it. RIP to all those officers and my condolences to their families.

Chris Henry-Gone too soon. Wide Receiver for the Cincinnati Bengals.

Brittany Murphy-Some facts about her I didn’t know. She was born in Atlanta and she was the voice for Luanne in King of the Hill and she also was the voice for the mother penguin in Happy Feet. RIP Brittany

Seven CIA employees just recently who were killed in Afghanistan.

Notable mentions:
Former governor Rod Blagojevich is impeached on charges of misconduct and accusations of trying to sell Obama’s Senate seat.

Serena Williams—first fined $10,000 for verbally assaulting a lineswoman which ultimately cost her the US Open title against Kim Clijsters who became the champion, coming back years after having a baby. That was Clijsters’ second US Open’s title. Williams later was fined $175,000 with a two-year probation period. Ouch. If she does not get into trouble within the two years her fine will be reduced to $82,000. I love Serena and despite what occurred it doesn’t make that much of a different. She is still the current World No. 1 and was named ITF World Champion in Singles and Doubles. Go in Serena!

Roger Federer-The current World No. 1 player was on fire this whole year with the exception of the US Open and the ATP World Tour Final where he lost to Del Potro and
Davydenko. Congratulations Federer for defeating Pete Sampras 14 career title streak. You are indeed one of the greatest male tennis players of all time!

Del Potro- The man who defeated Roger Federer at the 2009 US Open. I really respected him because he killed everyone in the tournament including the favorite and former champion. Kudos toward him.

Melanie Oudin—who surprised everyone when she defeated Sharpova, Dementieva, and Petrova. The young American women’s tennis player and is the new upcoming star! We are expecting great things from Oudin in 2010! Look out!

Gay Retreats-The first in May (in my hometown) and the latter in October (Atlanta) were both intriguing and thought provoking. I was so grateful to meet the men who shared a portion of their lives. I was grateful we came together to better understand ourselves and become better black gay men.

Tiger Woods—Mr. Woods one of the top American golfers admitted to having an affair with his wife. Unfortunately, the media pounced on him and drained all his credibility and squeezed until some of his endorsements were dropped. I hope for only the best for Tiger and I will continue to support him when gets back to his golf career.

My 2009 Top Artists

Mariah Carey—Her Album “Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel” is one of her best albums thus far. Mariah came back and did her thing especially in her role as a social worker in the movie Precious!!

Amerie-Amerie came back and I personally thought her first album “All I Have” was her best. Everyone was anticipating her newest album “Love and War” and I was not disappointed! It is different yet the same Amerie is still there alive and fierce as ever! We love you Amerie and appreciate your music which pushed me in the latter part of 09.

Maxwell-Our brother Maxwell came through and brought us his presence and lovely vocal skills. He is truly exciting to see and melts all the souls of all his fans! Keep em coming in 2010 Maxwell! Maxwell tweeted something very important in which he stated that we need to stop the War. That statement was very powerful and I am in complete alliance with it.

The Cool Kids—Even though they haven’t produced a new album yet, their mixtapes “That’s Stupid!” and “Gone Fishin” are bananas! I am a true fan of Cool Kids and if they ever have another concert here I will make sure I’m there! They already finished their tour but we are all expecting more from Mikey Rocks and Chuckk Inglish!

Chicago- My one-week escape. I stayed with my cousin and hung out some of the bros. It was excellent and wish I had more time to hang out with all four of my bros! 2010 will hopefully give me an opportunity to come back up there. We shall see…

Chicago, Sweet Treats and 1st Year in Grad

Okay So I know I'm long overdue For A Post And Tomorrow I will Do My 2009 Review. Relax! I hope everyone is enjoying their holidays! So I Went To Chicago For a Week and I'm mad I only went to Starbucks Once and it was at night of all times! Ugh! On the Left is my boi Tyrrell (@king_ty89) and the right is the very ambition future Chicago politician LeAaron. It was indeed a pleasure to see them even though when did not have ANY time to hang out like I truly wanted. Next time fellas when it's not so cold! You guys owe me! **Fist pump** lol.

To your left is a picture of downtown I believe on Michigan Ave. in morning during the week. I know Illinois schools were finishing their finals at this time. Right down the street was Columbia and I saw students making their way to the building. To the right was some street downtown..I was with my friend Drew (@DrewKanyeJudah) and I was snapping away with my camera. Now I know you guys are wondering why an Illinois native would be taking pictures of Chicago like a tourist? Well, I'm not from Chicago and that was my first time being in the windy city for a week so I took the opportunity to get images to share with you all.

I would have placed more pictures on here but since these pictures are HUGE it would take too long to upload since I could upload one at a time. I have to admit, it would have more enjoyable if it wasn't so cold but oh well. The previous night before I left, I was walking and a homeless man asked me a profound question that caught me off guard "What keeps you going?" Unfortunately, I could tell he just wanted money and was not looking at the significance of his message. I gave him two dollars and kept it moving. Nonetheless, it was a great question that made me think and I told the guy that I actually have been asking people that very same question. Just to let you all know my thoughts on the question: My music, friends, my blog viewers, my brothers (aka "family"), and my goals which I want to achieve.

These delicious treats come from Martha Stewart and since I love chocolate treats, I wanted to share these two that stood out to me: Cream Cheese Brownie and Rocky Road Tart. Do you guys have any favorite chocolate desserts that you make or like? Let me know.

Finally, my first-year in graduate school is finally complete. I am still maintaining my 3.0 happily and I hope to continue excelling in my writing and analysis of texts. I am forever grateful for my cohort who over the past semester has kept me afloat while I was contemplating about the program. I want to graduate with my five classmates and continue to love and support them even after we are finished at Clark. I truly appreciate what they have done and will continue to do as we build on our love for one another.

Some of times I can reflect on come from all the intellectual conversations we have AFTER class is over and we are outside still discussing issues regarding race, sexuality, class, etc. I absolutely love that and feel blessed to be around individuals who can voice their opinions and still respect someone else's point of view!

2010 is going to bring great things and I claiming my blessings in this! Peace and blessings.

WORLDS AIDS DAY

ONE YEAR AGO was my first time recognizing WORLD AIDS DAY and since having been aware of it, I continue to promote and reflect on all those who have died of AIDS and HIV. For all you have family members and friends who have died from AIDS/HIV, my thoughts go out to you all as we reflect today. It'so easy to say what everyone should do in order to prevent catching HIV. However, WE HAVE TO ALL WANT TO PROTECT OURSELVES. That's the first step to prevention in my opinion. You have to not be afraid to discuss your status with your partners and be able to ask what their status is. We also must importantly have to be real with ourselves about our sexual behavior and put that into check because SEX is where it all begins and where all the trouble can manifest itself.

Remembering My Alma Mater: A Reflection

I never really got an opportunity to reflect on my undergraduate years. I graduated last December and immediately started on my Master's. Yes, that was the plan but it all went so fast. I remember holding back tears at graduation which wanted to flow so freely. I thought I had found brotherhood only when I arrived to Atlanta. However, I realized that was not the case. I found that brotherhood my first-year at EIU as a transfer sophomore. I had one of the coolest R.A.'s Andy who truly made the floor community come alive. At that time I was also the Hall Council Executive Board member and I enjoyed organizing things for our hall. All those on 4-South (before renovation) were cool as hell. Shoutouts to: Chris, Zach, Darryl, Hall Council President, Assistant Resident Hall Director, Senior English major, Mark, Joe, Maurice (Fly Guy) and a few others I don't know by name but know by face.

I missed the times when I would walk up the stairs to my floor and say wassup to everyone. That type of brotherhood is truly priceless and I am grateful that I met all the guys who made it a great experience. White, black, and brown folks were all enduring college. I remember all the guys on the executive board would eat dinner every now and then. In that type of environment, you often forgot about racism and prejudice issues.

Reflecting back...I remember walking down the long sidewalks on campus (North Quad, Library Quad, South Quad) during the afternoons and at night..when there was few or no one outside. I enjoyed walking by myself and thinking about life and where I was headed.

Reflecting back....I recall getting up and often running in the cold working my shift in the early mornings at the library on certain days. Then of course, Senior year I remember always running to the dining hall, trying to beat the clock as I clocked in late! Lol.

Reflecting back...I remember my JOOD times in Taylor Hall Sophomore Year or Junior Year. LOVELY and often sad memories in Douglas Hall before I moved there. Then of course the GOOD LIFE in Thomas Hall (where I originally resided sophomore year)

Reflecting back...seeing my college mate Chris wrapped in a towel walking down the hall..YESSIR! LOL Totally respecting Mark and his very military-style organized room. I enjoyed our talks whenever ran into each other. One of the coolest white guys.

Senior Year: Fall Semester was by far the best semester at EIU. I had the "ideal" roommates, (2 gay(really bisexuals when it came down to it) roomies and 1 straight white roommate). Meeting Keeva (as we both dealt with the deterioration of my dance team). We became close over time and I was so grateful to not only embrace this new friendship but to know that this brother was part of the family. I got the opportunity to actually tell a crush AMONG THE many Ive had in matriculation of school in life that I liked him. He understood and said when he was ready to take on those feelings he would. I think he just hasn't accepted he is part of the family yet but I enjoyed knowing that we were real cool. I enjoyed all the hugs we gave each other (I love hugs SERIOUSLY.) I was grateful knowing that he came to me and ask me about girl issues...

I got my haircut by the coolest and sexiest RA in Taylor Hall. It was truly a pleasure each time he cut my hair and I was very appreciative when he cut my hair before I graduated. I felt the love of brotherhood truly my last semester. I enjoyed my part-time job at the dining hall, co-workers (shoutout to all of them including both Justins, Erica, Eric and my cute Arab co-worker who was the coolest bro and I will miss him truly) my roommates (overall lol), and all some of the brothers on the first floor in Taylor Hall. The 1st floor community in Taylor Hall reminds me of my experience in 4-South Thomas Hall.

I can't forget about my Indian brothers (from India, couldn't speak English very well but it still worked), it was like 4-5 of them and they knew I was gay. I had to tell them after they wanted to ask me about girls lol. I wasn't having dishonesty. I felt (this is just my opinion) they respected me and we would often stay outside and talk. I was extremely grateful to meet them and was very sad when most of them transferred to a school in Chicago. They did share with me some things that were going in India (tragic train crash or bombing) but I appreciated what they shared and told me about their life in India.

The women that were cool...(far fewer but still significant) included: Janiece, Mesha, Avis, Ava, all those in TRiO ambassadors (Raquel, Nicole, Ratisha, Kristin, Josephine), and so many others (Karen, Cleo, Ashley (ZPB) Grad student, and others)

All of my experiences, organizations I was apart of, made it truly worth enduring and enjoying EIU. Everything wasn't always good it's true but the good always outweighed the bad.

Mini-Reflections: First kiss in the library, holding my boy when he needed it, Kappa house party, Zeta Dance-Off, looking at his ass as he walked up the stairs EVERY TIME in those basketball shorts. St. Louis trips, TRiO Support, Alvin Ailey performance, Floor Crawl, Zoos at the bar, DANCING in the studio (future post solely on this) Dance mate's nearly naked body walking down the floor, the after-dance practice night. Walking out of Coleman Hall and seeing all the leaves on the ground..feeling the fall weather and taking it all in. 5 of the best professors who taught me alot which I will never forget (Thank you all from the bottom of my heart)

Whew...it's quite emotional but I wouldn't trade it for the world. EIU: Originally my second choice but the place that I landed at and prevailed.

**Sidenote**: The reason I bring up brotherhood so much is because my brothers mean SO MUCH to me. I have always wanted for a long time to be able to bond with men. The opportunities I had in undergrad during Hall Council and Thomas Hall pushed me toward the brotherhood I received now while working on my Master's. Now brotherhood is in my cohort and within the the confines of my Professor's African group. His students show so much love and have shown they are there for me. That is real love and I value only what is real and legitimate. Shout out to my brothas at Emory (Sal, Markese, Raphael, Kevin), GSU (Torrence, Lloyd) GSU alum also known as "the crew" Chase, Jeff, Marcus, Nick, and Brandon.

HOLA: STILL Standing

It's been so much going on. I dont even know where to start. I'm hanging in there. Been dealing with the stresses of school and maintaining sanity during the remainder of this year. It's been so much going on in the world. Ft. Hood, Pakistan suicide bombings, Orlando shooting...I'm hanging in there...it has just been hard. I have learn to think of all my brothas who I can count I'm down and out: J, KB, Michael, Jordan, Darrius, Tye (RIP), Tyrrell, LeAaron, Dion, Drew, Robert Lee, Ochieng, Raphael, Markese, and Drew.

We all have a spiritual connection with each other and thinking of my brothers is helping me get through all the madness...From the bottom of my heart I thank you and I love all my brothers unconditionally (also including my bloggers too).

I just purchased my round-trip ticket for Chicago last night and I am so excited to see my brothers up there. I don't have a whole lot to say honestly. The semester has been a blur and all I can think about is getting out of the A and visiting my brothers. Before I go I wanted you all to check out two links here and here which I read from one of blog brother's site.

Some of the music I just purchased is by The Roots Things Fall Apart and Illadelph Halflife and A Tribe Called Quest from their Album Midnight Marauders. I'm reverting back to the REAL HIP-HOP. Food Happy, Politics, and Tennis Post-Op

Hey everyone. Food always keeps me in good spirits so I wanted to share with you some of my favorite dishes from two cool women. Also, Food Network Star Rachael Ray is doing excellent work with her Non-Profit Org Yum-O! I highly recommend you guys check it out here.
I think what Rachael is serving as the lead example of those in the food industry (i.e. cooks) to commit to giving back to the community. I like the segment where they feature serving food to the homeless.

The dishes above are all by Martha Stewart. The one on the left is spaghetti carborna. The one on the right is baked Penne with Chicken and sundried tomatoes.

--Tennis Post Op: I know I should've already been on here but hey whatever. School has intersected my time. I know this is extremely late, but this years 2009 US Open had some big upsets. After Serena Williams lost to Kim Clijsters in the semis, I was done with the US Open. I later found out Juan Del Potro defeated US Open Champion and World No. 1 Roger Federer. Neither of the champions could defend their title which SUCKS. However, this leaves more room for folks like Clijsters and Del Potro to grow. Congrats to them both. On a lighter note Venus and Serena were the 2009 US Open Women's Doubles' Champions. They upset the number one seeds Cara Black and Liezel Huber. This is the Williams' sisters 3rd Grand Slam doubles' title this year! They are truly racking them up!

Finally, I wanted to touch upon some interesting articles that I found myself reading about on the website Politics Daily. The real politicians are the ones we watch. Check them out here and here.

We're Scared of Ourselves Now? How Can We Protect Us From Us? Part 2

Hey everyone. Honestly, I know that perhaps the second part of my title "How Can We Protect Us From Us" sounds crazy but I am sure many can relate. These are our people and yet these children (most who are in gangs or involved in these violent acts are between 18-25 in my opinion) are living in an environment many times where no one cares about them. So they survive on their own and as they get involved in mischief and petty crimes, these things escalate into murder or manslaughter.

I wrote a paper in my Seminar for Africana Women's Studies course in which I argued that loving ourselves (and our children) will save our race. We are out here scared of children who HONESTLY scared too. I don't want to go on a rant forever because it would seem pointless. RIP to Mr Albert and I found an updated article on Mr. Albert's death here. I highly recommend you all check out the article and give your thoughts about violence with our black youth. Two comments I took noticed to and wanted to share with you all:

Last fall in 2009, Creston High School in Grand Rapids, Michigan experienced the tragic and senseless loss of one of its fine students, David Witherspoon. The result of a drive-by shooting, allegedly committed by a recent graduate of another nearby high school, a young man whose potential and promise reportedly dimmed as his path had gone awry in the streetsof the city, a young man whose own life ended by suicide soon after as law enforcement surrounded his motel hideout within days of the earlier shooting. He was suspected of participating in that murder, which had unfathomably interrupted a warm, sunny Fall Friday afternoon, with kids of all ages streaming homeward from their neighborhood's high, middle, and elementary schools, a big home football game only hours off, families awaiting their children, planning their weekends and beyond. These awful events shocked the city, broke the hearts of David's family and friends, puzzled teachers and administrators who knew both the victim and the alleged killer, and deeply affected all who felt the community's sorrow. To understand these ongoing atrocities, which continue to claim the lives of children here and elsewhere in this great nation, to counter these demoralizing acts of violence against kids by kids, often themselves too young to appreciate the true gravity of the differences between real life and the fiction of video reels, to bear the burden and shame for having failed to protect what can't be replaced, these challenges must take priority over other foreign concerns and insurgencies. We must deal with our own problems, raise all of our kids with equal determination, not only teach the values of fair play and opportunity but demonstrate in real ways the means by which our kids can work together to solve problems and resolve conflicts amicably and with the spirit of brotherhood. Keeping the ruinous lies and temptations of the gangster vultures from ruining their innocence and dreams should always come first, before its too late.

Violence among young kids is out of control. Two weeks ago while waiting for a train in Dallas, I came across a gang of about 20 middle school kid attacking and beating the heck out of another middle school kid. They had him on the ground, had ripped off his shirt and were kicking and beating him with their fists. The group included both boys and girls. I pulled them off of him allowing him time to run while one of the kids pushed me and tried to intimidate me. I called 911 but the dispatcher transferred the call to the DART (Dallas Area Rapid Transit) police wasting valuable time so that they could respond to a crime at one of the DART stations. The kid realized I was not going to run from him so he backed off and I jumped on the first train to come by. I was confused and accidentally got on the train headed in the wrong direction and had to change trains at the next station. As it turned out, the vicitm was on that train and I had a chance to speak to him. Later after I was on the right train heading home, I saw the group of kids on the train and they came over again to try and intimidate me so I again called 911. DART police responded at a station a few stops down and I identified two of the most aggressive kids and they were taken off the train. Nothing however, was done to them. The rest of the group continued on to downtown and for the most part behaved until their stop. They then got off the train and proceeded to go cause trouble downtown. While on the train, I made a note of one of the kids' school ID badge and called the principal at his alternative school but nothing happened. I called the victim's school and again, nothing happened. The assistant principal did not return my phone call. These were 14 year old kids! The one removed from the train is going to wind up in prison or dead after he turns 18. He and his buddies were doing chin ups on the train trying to intimidate me but they backed off because I didn't turn and run. If I had, I'm sure that they would have acted like a pack of wild animals and attacked me. I certainly understood Bernard Goetz actions as the NYC vigilate in the mid-80s. The problem is that people fail to take action; they don't get involved. I could have been hurt by helping the young boy being beaten but I was lucky. I'm going to look into the possibility of a stun gun just in case. Oh and I forgot to mention that I believe it was a hate crime. The attackers were African-American and the victim was Hispanic.

My final thoughts on the Albert case is the following. 1) Declaring a call to action is only a political stunt in my opinion to comfort parents that something "SHOULD" be done but many times will not. 2) Jesse Jackson being in front a family whose son is dead does not change violence on the streets, or other children being killed in poor neighborhoods. 3) If school administrators and parents are not forming coalitions to stop this madness and TAKE A STAND then silence will remain and violence will continue. My brothers and sisters, our young people should not feel unsafe walking home from school or headed somewhere else. WE CANT DECIDE TO CARE AFTER SOMEONE IS DEAD. WE NEED TO ALWAYS CARE AND LOOK OUT FOR ALL THESE CHILDREN. Neighborhood associations, school administration, police taskforce, and parents have to SAY I CARE ABOUT THESE KIDS and show it. Otherwise violence will continue with no avail.

Hey everyone. I'm sorry I have not been recently posting. I got sick over weekend and its been a battle ever since. Please keep me in your thoughts as I continue to find my strength and get engaged back in my studies.

Derrion Albert -16 GONE TOO SOON (Murdered Last Thursday September 24th.)

First I WANT TO SAY RIP TO Derrion Albert who was beaten to death on camera in Chicago. The incident was HORRIFIC TO SAY THE LEAST.

Here are some of the comments FROM THE PAGE (for all those who can't comprehend that these are not my views) that I find very truthful, and I'm not even from Chicago but I am a native from Illinois:

--for years, i lived down the street from a chicago public high school, frantically calling police every time one of these melees went down (once a week!) and taking innocent bystanders into my house . . . if the cops did show, it was one car that sped down the street and kept going . . . when i did talk to the police at community meetings, they didn't seem to understand why i would care about a bunch of gang bangers and advocated that i just "let them kill each other"

the problem in chicago is that most cops and the politicians don't send their kids to public school, and they just plain don't give a damn about the kids who d

o.

--I am so heartbroken. To see the last moments of this young man's life senseless torn from him by the edge of a board. The thing that angers me the most is that with all the screaming and videos, who took the time to say this is out of hand, let's call the police. What would have happened if just one person had said from the beginning, "Someone call the police," instead of waiting till the boy was down and stopped moving to cry for help. My heart sank. On several occasions this boys life could have been saved. What took the people inside the building so long to come out and help?

Until we begin to care about ourselves, we will never care about anybody else. If we don't teach our youth to value their own lives, they will never see the value of someone else's. My prayers go out to Derrion's family. There were more than 3 individuals involved with this and I hope they all are prosecuted for this young man's death. Even if it was one punch... they were involved!!! May God keep you all. Rest Easy young man!!!

-Oh, but this society DOES condone savage behavior, my good friend. Over half a million Iraqis are dead because society condoned sending our military to invade and occupy another country for absolutely no reason, just filthy lies.

We can't expect our youth to behave much better than the example set by our leaders.

I feel sometimes as a RACE we are so caught up IN EVERYTHING ELSE but our own people and it''s UNREAL HOW FAR OUT OF SYNC WE ARE NOW! Listen to me and let's be real about this: Many of those involved in the fighting are coming from MULTIPLE BROKEN HOMES...mothers who are too young to parent or those mothers who threw their sons out because he disrespected her house.

So now brothas go to gangs for "protection, drugs (sell and use), engaging in violent crimes" and not giving a damn WHO DIES ALONG THE WAY.. Now Mr. Albert (hopefully because i know the case is still under investigation) was somehow caught up in all of this...WHO WAS THIS FRIEND HE WAS TRYING TO SAVE? Whatever the case his life was lost as his SKULL WAS BASHED IN.

Now we are all scared, MANY IN CHICAGO I'm sure are or many are so used to it that it numbs them. One of the commenters said it all happen so fast so how could they possibly know that was going to happen? THESE VIOLENT ACTS ARE SO PREDICTABLE with the rate of someone getting shot or beaten to death at 95%. Black families in Chicago, for those who have lost a loved one due to GANG VIOLENCE, you know all too well how this situations ends up playing out. HOPEFULLY FOR THE ALBERT FAMILY, THESE CHARGES WILL STICK AND IF DEATH PENALTY CHARGES HAPPEN...WELL LET JUSTICE BE DONE (In the sense of punishment)

Here it is 2009 and 4-6 year old boys worship rap artists like Lil Wayne memorizing all the lyrics, and even sagging! They RESPECT HIM MORE THAN their parents and family. (I've seen it) All some of the kids hear in their house is cussing, fighting, drugs, and dysfunctionalism. (Are you HEARING ME AS IM TYPING THIS: THE BIGGER MESSAGE?) So they copy their big brothers, cousins, uncles and even fathers (who may end up locked up or dead) The mother tells her children to go to school but gives her kids no values on why school is important. Having no one to teach him how to live, he does not understand why school is important and so he dropouts (whatever anger, pain, sadness, frustration, ignorance all balled up and hidden for years I'M SURE.) The result ends up being these boys who killed Derrion Albert.

I have to agree with my best friend (whose sister was murdered) when he stated that: Those who kill other people's family should die the same way they killed the person. That way people would learn about killing someone else. HARSH YES. However, His sister, Mr. Albert, or Ms. Lynn can not come back. Is it God's will to let everyone deal savagely like Brotha Albert had to die? I don't think so. Society is teaching these new generations to value everything BUT THEMSELVES and when U DONT KNOW how to value yourself, U HAVE NO VALUE FOR OTHERS AND THEY BECOME TARGETS for tragedies like this.

Finally, Can We Protect US from Us? I remember seeing the First 48 on A&E and it is really so terrifying for me to see that the neighbors are so terrified about revealing information to police because they don't want to be the next victim. So nothing gets done. The person's murderer is still out on the loose and the murder case goes in a file...BY THE WAY FIRST 48 ARE REAL PEOPLE DYING not fake ones like Cold Case. How can we as a people save ourselves from each other, when we are the ones AS THE WOLVES IN SHEEPSCLOTHING and will rip our brothers and sisters to shreads without any thought proccess of it. We don't even know who to trust no more.

I'm claiming DERRION ALBERT as my BROTHA because hes OUR RESPONSIBILITY. WHEN JASMINE LYNN DIED, seeing that was completely unreal and SEEING THIS WAS EVEN WORSE. I ask you fellow readers, fellow BLOGGERS, when are we going to step up and be our BROTHER'S AND OUR SISTER'S KEEPER? ASK YOURSELF THAT?

I just want to briefly talk about this "Russell Brand" Host. First of all, he was horrible. As I stated on Twitter, this Willie Wonka was giving me death with the suit and hair. I was just floored and digusted to say the LEAST. So many people they could've asked and they choose this pathetic soul. Come on MTV, you guys could've done better forreal.

So As Taylor Made Swift (lol) was making her speech talking about whatever...Kanye Then Takes the Mic from her, then proceeds to tell her and the audience that Beyonce had the Best Female Video. YEASSSSSSS. I thought it was HILLARIOUS. NO SHADE. Listen, I agree he could've said it at a different time but he didn't. KANYE WEST IS GOING TO DO HIM PEOPLE. Let's not fake the funk. We have already heard outbursts of his before (i.e. Bush hates black people).. People trying to shade and THROW HIM UNDER THE BRIDGE BLAH BLAH! *SHIFT IT!* (IN MY KAREN WALKER VOICE!) People...we could argue about this all day. He said what he said...she was looking pitiful and of course Beyonce gave her another moment of fame to redeem herself after she was GAGGING from Kanye's statement...poor Swift.

But who's the real victim? Beyonce! Hello! She's the one who shouldve won! NO SHADE. Like I said before "WHO IS TAYLOR SWIFT." I didn't get life when she won and I won't get life from her anytime in the future. Sorry. Just saying.

RIP Jasmine Lynn, Pride Weekend

I first had to basically show my condolences to the Lynn family for the lost of Jasmine Lynn of Spelman college who was shot and killed in the grass of my residence hall James P. Brawley Hall last Thursday morning. I was looking out the window when I was watching some of the madness unfold. I did not see the shooter but I did see everyone duck when shots were fired. When everyone who ducked on the grass got up, Jasmine did not. It was so unreal because I had never been around (in this case by window) to see someone shot. Check out the story here.
Even though there is constant shade from the Morehouse-Spelman peeps (not everyone but it exists TRUST) she did not deserve to die. RIP Ms. Lynn (a freshmen at Spelman whose dream was to attend Spelman gone too soon.)

Now Pride Weekend...

09/04 Friday I went to the Piedmont Park nothing major. This picture I took which I didn't even mean to take but when I looked at it, it was amazing. I did not do much on Friday.

9/05 I went to AID Atlanta and ended up meeting Kevin and Charles from the Deeper Love Project. I got my free T-Shirt and now plan to become more involved with them FINALLY. I wanted to get involved last semester but never went over there. I'm making up for lost time now. Check out the website here.
Later, right after I left AID Atlanta I went to the Renaissance Hotel and attended the SBGA (State of Black Gay America Summit). The Theme for this year was "Defining the Black Gay Agenda" "Making Our Presence Known") I was arriving when Rev. Dr. Yvette Flunder (the keynote speaker) was ending but I did hear some of the things she did say. She mentioned that people are going to have to bring more to the table than BEING GAY. (i.e. being poor, unemployed, etc.)
I came after twittering @loldarian and then of course found out my crew was there!!! (@chaaaase @QuietAsItsKept @bigwedgeofcake and @Nic_E_Rocks) I set with them while the two set of panelists came through.

After this I traveled on the Marta amongst the VTech (Hokies), GTech, and Alabama Football fans who took over the trains and buses for the weekend. I made my way to Lenox Mall where I ended up meeting @_Bewitched also known as JoJo. I was supposed to meet other Tweeters at Lenox but that never happen and I digress about the topic entirely. I ended up leaving later than expected from Lenox and headed back to campus.

Me and my friend @notorious_kes (Markese) went out to 708. He ended up picking me up at the Renaissance Hotel. I never did check out the pool party that was going on. Instead, I went straight to the bar to guzzle down a couple tequila sunrises and one amaretto sour. LOVED IT! I had to change clothes so we went back to his place. Markese also seem to be dealing with some loneliness/depression regarding his school. I'll discuss that in another blog. However, I told him I could relate but never went into detail about how I could. I had alot of fun at the club and did not care for the parking lot scene afterwards. We ended up going home.

9/06 Sweet N Greet. The hosts of the YouTube show "SweetAddictionsTV" (@sweetaddictions) --Candy and SKITTLES had their first Sweet N Greet where ideally YouTubers and Bloggers alike could meet, hangout, and eat some food. I enjoyed meeting Qaadir (@timaya_burrito) TIMAYA from YouTube, BlueyedSimba (same name on Twitter and YouTube) Jowork (same name on Twitter and YouTube such a sweetheart!!!), Kevin (@theskorpion) Theskorpionshow from YouTube and BlogTV, Lonnell 3LWTV(@3LWTV) chocomel911 on YOUTUBE Dramadupree (same name on Twitter and YouTube), Alonzo (same on YouTube), NewNue (@YoBoiNewnue) and one my favorite Tweets Jake!! @JakeJacobsVI (friends with DerrickLBriggs @DerrickLBriggs of Finding Me) --sorry I didn't get to make it to the Hyatt Derrick!! :( and Anthony_y_Tony from Twitter!! Such a cutie!!!

therealashland (same name on Twitter) was there at the Sweet N Greet but I did not recognize her and therefore missed out on talking! Luckily she stays in ATL so hopefully we can catch up for missed conversation!

NO SHADE TO ANYONE but seeing my bro XemVanAdams (same name on Twitter and YouTube) was by far the best! Now while I did get to take a pic with Xem, I still have to retreive the pic from the person who took it! However, I enjoyed seeing Xem and wished I had more time to really spend with him. I didn't feel like there was simply enough time to have the dialogue that I wanted to engage with him at the Sweet N Greet. Just how you see Xem on YouTube is exactly how he is in person! Absolutely a very cool dude and very DIRECT WHICH I love about him. He will bring you into his circle and overall I love his character, spirit, and energy. Thanks Xem for the ride and I'm glad we met! Hope we can talk again in the future!

I enjoyed listening to the dialogue about celebrities such as Mariah Carey, Rihanna, Whitney Houston, Britney Spears, Beyonce being discussed in depth by the YouTubers and I chimed in a couple of times.

After leaving Sweet N Greet, I traveled to Piedmont Park and well...it was PACKED. I hung out with some of the crew from the Sweet N Greet...and everything was fine until the 2 STAMPEDES...Yes I am not exaggerating where I couldve been trampled had I fallen..I still don't know what caused everyone to run but I learned my lesson after that.

Advice to some regarding Labor Day Weekend:
1)When I am at a location and you decide to use CP Time to delay arriving, you WILL GET LEFT. No Shade, just saying. I HATE waiting on people so just let that be known for the future.
2) Shade seems to stick to SOME CELEBRITY REJECTS. Hun, Listen, don't allow a whole guide of followers to now give U A JUMP START ON BEING CONCEITED. Lord knows it doesn't work for face since it is a KI. (And no I will no reveal who I am talking about lmao.)
3) People tend to choose FAKE over being HUMBLE. Be YOU but also be humble and grateful for what you have accomplished (IF YOU HAVE ACCOMPLISHED SOMETHING) and for where you are because there are plenty of people who want to be where you are in life. TRUST.

Overall Pride was amazing, I had tons of fun and hope I get the opportunity to go to another big city pride in the future. Shoutouts to Candy and Skittles for putting the Sweet N Greet together! I love meeting you guys and I had alot of fun!!! XEM YOU KNOW I LOVE AND SUPPORT YA 200% and thanks for being YOU!

Meanwhile Fernando Verdasco defeats Sam Querry in the Pilot Pen Tennis Men's Final 6-4, 7-6.
Dannish player Caroline Wozniacki defeats Russian Elena Vesnina 6-2, 6-4.

The winners of the US Open Series in points went to Sam Querry with 175 pts. and Elena Dementieva with 170.

Oh you are probably what happen to Serena Williams in the Rogers Cup. Well, she fell to the champion Dementieva 6-7, 1-6.

And now gents and ladies, the moment we have all been waiting for the US Open. They just started yesterday and so far some of my favorites are on a role already such as Serena and Venus Williams. World No. 1 Roger Federer, American Andy Roddick. Remember Serena Williams is 3-time champion of this major and she is the former 2008 champion. We are hoping to see how far she goes.

Now again like I mentioned in my last post, we have to watch out for Kim Clijsters seriously. Check out what the US Open says about her after Day 1 here. Shes one to watch out for most definitely. And check out American teen Melanie Oudin. This is absolutely her year and I am proud of her!

Meanwhile, I seen this story about this cute Dachshund who died at 147 in dog years. Amazing.

Not amazing but horrific was the sorority in NPHC who hazed their girls very badly. The comments are definitely worth reading when you check out the article. Am I surprised? Hell no. Disgusted? Absolutely. No one has left any comments on my status regarding the matter on Facebook. **Shrugs.**

For anyone who just graduated with their bachelor's and plans on teaching in the Atlanta metro or GA statewide you might want to reconsider since they are issuing furloughs. Check out the story here. The poor lady took a paycut and is now receiving even less money. HARD TIMES INDEED.

Personal News--Labor Day Weekend is approaching rapidly and quite frankly, I'M BROKE until the 18th. However, I do plan to attend the Sweet-N-Greet at Grant Park on Sunday so I hope to see some of you there. It's from 2-4pm and it will cost you $5 a plate. I won't be going to the club this weekend at all but you will probably see me at Lenox and Piedmont Park.

I'm still pushing it despite some setbacks. I hope to hang out with my friend KB and I still have to catch up with my Love Raphael.

The Leader of Course in Standings for the Series is Juan Martin Del Potro with 140 pts for the Men and both Jelena Jankovic and Flavia Pennetta with 115 pts. I'm sure everyone is wondering what happen to the Williams sisters...Well you see Venus lost in the final at Bank of the West and Serena...Well she also lost at the Bank of the West to the LA Women's Tennis Runner-up Samantha Stosur 2-6, 6-3, 2-6. She back at it though playing tonight against Yaroslava Shvedova. She should be able to get past her and move on. We shall see.

Meanwhile everyone is watching Former No. 1 in doubles and singles' champ Kim Clijsters as she makes her COMEBACK. Former US Open Champion just won her match against Victoria Azarenka (BLR) in the Rogers Cup and moves to the 3rd Round. Clijsters reached the Quarter-finals of the Western & Southern Financial Group Women's Open against World No. 1 Dinara Safina but fell out 2-6, 5-7. She now has a chance to fight back to the top in the Rogers Cup. You guys can check out more of the action for ALL THE TOURNAMENTS here.

Former No. 1 Player Rafael Nadal is also back! The Spaniard is now ranked 3rd and right now as we speak is playing Andeas Seppi and is up a set and games are tied 3 a piece in the Second Set (Western and Southern Financial Group Masters). I am hoping Nadal reaches the final of this tourney and we are all expecting to see him in the 2009 US Open!

My second older sister cooked me brunch and my brother, mother, grandmother, older sister, cousins, my aunt and my sister's husband with her kids were in attendance. It was good and it was great to be around the family love. For once! Hopefully they will continue to have future brunches without me.

Cousin's Baby Shower

Me and my cousin ran to the Party Outlet Store to get some cute items for the baby shower. The baby shower was great! Has anyone ever played the game where you can't say the word baby and whoever lasts at the end wins a prize? Well I was among the first to lose. Lol. The baby shower was at the same place where my hs classmate had hers back in December.

Sunday: My other cousin (the cousin's brother whose sister had the baby shower) was supposed to have a BBQ at his house. The rain meant that they had to move the event somewhere else like THE BOWLING ALLEY. It was fun! We all ate then we bowled. My highest game was a 118 and the first game was a 91. I finished second in each one.
Blackberry Update: I received my new replacement last Monday and I've been enjoying it ever since! Gotta love the BB. Trying to build up my BBM even though when school starts it will probably not be utilized.

I leave this Saturday folks as you know. Wish me a safe flight and of course I'll see all my bros, classmates, and newbies when I get back!

So here's the deal on the Blackberry Curve 8320. Since I have been using a Universal Charger (iGo smh) and it is the reason that 1) my battery has been dying and also messing up my phone which is now dead. I was not using the iGo prior to being back at home but since I got back home, all these problems started occurring. I figured this out the other day and Customer Care cutie Michael (he sounded cute lol) gave me the breakdown of what was going on. So it wasn't T-Mobile, it was ME! But hey things happen and I just want to move past this and await my 3rd replacement in the mail which I hope either comes tomorrow or Saturday. The sooner the better.

T-Mobile WTF BB Drama, Year of Death, Food Network, Charlie Rose

Hey everyone! I know you all have been wondering where I have been. Well, I've been waiting for time to pass quickly as usual. 17 DAYS and counting until return back to the A. I helped my Aunt again this past Weekend at Farmer's Market. I would have pictures but they are in my BlackBerry. The weather sucked which slowed down the amount of people who came. It was raining a little but she sold a a couple hats. No jewelry still.

Here's the Story on my Blackberry:
My battery apparently died according to T-Mobile Customer Care. So I'm like okay cool. So the representative (some guy) told me he would ship it to me UPS Express and that would take 3 business days. I wasn't happy that it could take that long but that was the fastest way to get it so I dealt with it. So I'm waiting impatiently of course because I hate not having my phone. I called Customer Care the next day to tell them I couldn't track my battery of UPS.com (Apparently, it wasn't processed at the time) I then find out the battery was sent UPS GROUND instead of UPS EXPRESS! For those can understand the difference will understand why I was pissed!!!!! I ended up speaking to the supervisor after almost cursing out the Customer Serv Rep. The supervisor told me there was nothing he could do since the order has already been processed and it still pissed me off.

**Sidenote**: Keep in mind this is my second replacement on the Blackberry and for the battery to go out makes me even more P.O.

According to them I should get it by next Tuesday. I'm thinking WTF should it take that long???? Oh and check this out: I still can't track the order yet and its been two days since the orders been processed.

2009 as we all know has been a YEAR OF DEATH for not only famous people but for some local homicides as well. So after reading about Sodini, Provost Murder Suspect and Bana, it truly breaks my HEART to know innocent people are the result of someone else's RAGE and VIOLENT ACTS.

Meanwhile, since I've been having some downtime to actually watch some TV when THERE IS PEACE and no one around: I have seen the Food Network and absolutely love watching Rachael Ray and Bobby Flay. I really like how well-rounded Rachael Ray is and how BIG she has gotten. I've watched her show a couple of times and now been seeing her on 30 minute meals. Bobby Flay had this Indian-inspired Pita Chicken sandwich with Greek yogurt that was so mouthwatering! The official name is Tandoori Spiced Chicken Breast with Grilled Tomato Jam and Herbed Yogurt Sauce. (above) Yummy Cakes!!

Back in Charlie Roseland US Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano tells Charlie Rose that Americans need to be better networked and prepared for terrorist attacks such as biological or chemical weapons of Mass Destruction. She feels we are more safer than we were during 9/11. What do you all think about the nation's security? Share your thoughts.

Also CEO of Hulu Jason Kilar talked about how he became apart of Hulu and why content and advertising are important when it comes to sites such as his and others (like Facebook and Twitter).

Hey Everyone! I know! I've been slacking but hey please bare with me. So I was down after hearing about E. Lynn Harris' death but now I'm ok. I wanted to share with you some of my favorite passages from his books which include:

I did already tell you in a previous post that I would reveal some of the writing I have been working on.

I am finally at a consistent place with love and success. It is still a continued process but I am further along than I was during my college years. My name is Darrell McDonough and I am a black gay man. The worst and greatest can be said about how I portray myself in front of others. However, I will say I live to endure and make life simple and less strenuous. I received my Bachelor’s in English from New York University and my Master’s in African-American Literature from Howard University. I’m now an editor for the exclusive Brothas, black gay men’s magazine in Atlanta, Georgia. I’m also a part-time teacher at Duncan State College where I teach African-American studies and Black Queer Theory. My partner Obwame Weinor who is originally from Ghana, received his Bachelor’s in Accounting and we live in our nice home in Snellville, Georgia.

I have come a long ways from where I used to be. Obwame is my support system in everything I do and I know he truly loves me unconditionally. He lets me know by doing little things such as sending cute text messages reminding me how lucky he is. We talk occasionally during breaks throughout the work week, send each other Hallmark cards including our own naughty little messages whenever the other isn’t home. He senses when something is wrong with me even when I try to cover it up. For years upon end, I have thought of being with this MAN. Not specifically him, but someone who would do what Obwame does. Many nights as a teenage boy I would look out the window, depressed and obsessed with wanting a boyfriend but never having one. I wanted friendships that were not there but convinced myself otherwise whenever I was at school. In fact, it would seem like I had TONS of friends among my classmates, teammates, and fellow members of the organizations I found myself apart of.

Reality would set in every Friday night when I came home from track practice and find myself at home with no friends, no phone, cable, or car. I am in disbelief that was almost 10 years ago.

My baby got them cakes and I’m not talking the kind you eat with ice cream. My name is Carlos Juan Anderson Jr., son of Carl Sr. and Tamia Anderson, both graduates of Fisk University. I did not become another Fisk legacy like my father wanted but instead attended Grambling State University. I enrolled on athletic scholarship playing basketball and met the man of my dreams Jason Taylor Brooks. This did not occur overnight of course. I maintained a relationship with a sister named Angela for a minute just to keep up appearances. I treated her out to eat, bought her clothes and shoes from time to time but that was it. She never pressured me to have sex with her. It sounds far-fetched, but Angela Smith told me she would remain celibate until a ring was put on her finger. Hell, I did not mind because my intention was not to have sex with her. At the height of 6’2 190 pounds, smooth brown skin, and almond-colored eyes I was destined to find my suitor.

Currently, I don't have a title but there is PLENTY of time to sort through all that. I just wanted to give you a taste of what I was writing about and hope hear some feedback.

Weekend Fun:

I went to see my aunt at the riverfront. She sells her hats and jewelry down there at this event called Farmer's Market where different people sell all sorts of things. It was a nice day out and I told her I wanted to help her for the next couple of weekends. I sat there with her and actually sold something for her which was cool. I helped her take down her tent and other items when it was over.

Meanwhile, last weekend my cousin-in-law treated me out to the straight clubs and I had a good time. Prior to going out, I was drinking some NASTY Friday's mojito mix and I can't believe how horrible it was. Nonetheless, I also enjoyed my Tequila Sunrise which went down quick. I had my first beer ever in life. I know one thing, beer will still not be something I drink on the regular. PERIOD.

While at the first club we went to, I ran into my mother's friend who worked security for the door. Then I danced and conversed with a girl I went to HS with. She graduated from the University of Illinois-Urbana Champaign and she has some kids now. I don't know how many.

At the other bar where I had the beer, I seen some guys and 1 girl from high school. I also seen my cousin's baby mother there as well. Overall, it was a great night and made the time pass.

3 Weeks Tomorrow Until I go back to school and the wait is killing me but you guys already know it's going down. Time just went fast and I had more to say but not enough time to say it but I'll be posting again soon. Have a great weekend.

E. Lynn Harris Dead at 54

If you have not already heard E. Lynn Harris, the author of the recent novel "Basketball Jones" which I did a review about on my blog has passed. Check the article about Harris here. I first received word via text from a friend in San Diego, CA then of course found out more via Twitter and Rod 2.0. The fact that Noah's Arc Creator Patrik Ian Polk who I follow on twitter was supposed to meet him for lunch really put the tragic truth out there. I had the pleasure of meeting E. Lynn Harris when he came to The Shrine of the Black Madonna in Atlanta, GA. I was the last one to get my book signed and was so geeked to finally talk to him. I was so nervous, I could not get out what I wanted to say. I told him I could relate to his characters particularly Raymond Winston Tyler Jr. who was the main character in a few of his books such as "Invisible Life, Just As I Am and Abide With me".

I even named my screenname after his character on the website Xanga after the whole iPod scandal/Xanga-hack-in-my-old-account incident. The novels which I have read and own by Harris include:

This man, his writing and his characters (along with greats like James Baldwin and James Earl Hardy) have truly impacted my life as a black gay man. Post Wimbledon & Birthday Wrap Up, US Open Series, Maxwell, Countdown

2009 Wimbeldon Men's Singles' Champion Roger Federer who Defeated American Andy Roddick
5-7, 7-6,7-6,3-6, 16-14 (The Longest 5th Set in Wimledon History). He is alongside Legend Pete Sampras who held the record of 14 Major Titles but Roger Broke that streak and now he is one of the greatest of all time! Congrats Roger!!

2009 Wimbeldon's Ladies Singles' Champion Serena Williams defeating her older Sister Venus Williams who is the 5-time Wimbledon Champion.
7-6, 6-2
I'm now following Serena on Twitter (serenajwilliams) and checked out her website. She is doing some great things and now she is 3-time champion at Wimbledon. Congrats again Serena!

The Williams' Sisters came back to win the doubles' final against Samantha Stosur and Rennae Stubbs 7-6, 6-4. These ladies are now the 4-time Wimbledon Ladies Doubles' Champions. Amazing!!

Notable Mentions: American Andy Roddick who was the Runner up in the Wimbledon Final
Dinara Safina who I believe is still No. 1 in the World Who Lost to Venus Williams in the Semis.
Andy Murray - The Scottish who the UK was routing for who lost to Andy Murray in the Semis.

Wimbledon was amazing this year and I enjoyed not only watching it on TV but following the action on Twitter. I am also following Andy Roddick on Twitter (andyroddick) and He was watching The Davis Cup QuarterFinals Croatia defeated The US 3-2. Roddick was supposed to play but had an problem with his leg or knee and opted out of the competition. American Mardy Fish took his place but lost to Croatian Player Marin Cilic 4-6 6-3 6-7(3) 6-1 8-6.

For my 25th Birthday I went out with my friend to TGIF Fridays and enjoyed their Parmesan Crusted Chicken and Blackberry Long Islands. Yummy! Good Times as always and enjoyed my evening as well.

THE US Open Series Starts Next Monday and I am excited to see how things go this year, specifically with Serena Williams and Roger Federer who are the defending champions of the US Open. I did not know that the US Open was tied in with the US Series but now I know. Number 1 Seed Dinara Safina won the Series last year so honestly it is anyways game. It seems like a lot of since they are all traveling across the country and playing on hardcourt. The commercials definitely seem compelling and if you want to check out more go here.

Maxwell's Album Blacksummersnight is out and my favorite tracks are Bad Habits and Pretty Wings. Maxwell is back in full effect and You gotta check him out most definitely.

38 COUNT IT! 38 MORE DAYS Until I head back to Atlanta. I just booked my flight for next month and you already know It's going down. Classes Set. Financial Aid Set (finally). Now I'm trying to get word on this graduate assistant position. I plan to call the lady at the library tomorrow. This summer did not turn out how it was supposed to be HOWEVER, I am grateful to still be here.

BET Awards Flop, Maxwell Album Debut, Wimbeldon, and Politics with Charlie Rose

For those who watched the BET Awards Show, we all know it was HORRIBLE. When it first came on, I did not get the opportunity to watch it so I read all the Tweets on Twitter on my Blackberry about all the celebs. When I seen some of it, I was embarrassed and disappointed in how it turned out. Maxwell, as some of you know GAVE ME LIFE with his performance. I was looking for pictures of Maxwell during the BET Awards Performance but to no avail. So I had to settle with this one lol. Did you all catch Jamie Foxx emphasizing how he was a Heterosexual Man, and saying a bunch of unnecessary bullcrap before he introduced Maxwell??? I'm thinking to myself, that was all unnecessary and honestly I will run to a Maxwell performance before I consider in my MIND about going to see Jamie Foxx. Our brother Maxwell is doing great things.

Meanwhile in sports, Venus and Serena Williams both advance to the Women's Semi-Finals at Wimbledon. Venus won her match in straight sets against 11th seed Radwanska 6-1, 6-2 and Serena defeated Azarenka 6-2, 6-3. It is expected that the Williams' sisters will play in the Final together but Venus in particular has to get past number One seed Dinara Safina who also advanced to the Semis. I love all three players so those matches will be great to see. Don't forget Venus is the 5-time champion of Wimbledon so...WE WILL SEE.

Tomorrow the Men play their Quarterfinals and my favorites, Roger Federer, Andy Murray and Roddick will be fighting for a spot in the Semis! Honestly I hope Roger wins again and breaks Pete Sampras' record for 14 major titles. I can't wait until tomorrow.

Finally, most don't know I occassionally watch Charlie Rose on PBS and one of his guests on the show was Former US National Security Advisor Zbigniew Brzezinski. (to President Jimmy Carter)

Rose kept on haggling him about China declaring themselves a WORLD POWER. To me clearly they are! Brzezinski also mentioned the collapse of Russia's economy and how besides nuclear weaponry, they are not holding up to PAR for World Power. Rose also discussed the dollar and will it be considered the "world currency" by mid-century. Brzezinski thinks US will still have ownership or China. I just noticed how Rose kept attacking him question after question. I was thinking damn does he do that to everyone? Haha gotta love journalists.

Before I forget, my Blackberry stop charging so I ordered another one and it will arrive on Thursday. My apologies to those who have tried to contact me.

Heyyy. I know some of you have been wondering where I've been! I do apologize for not being on here more often but now I have to travel to the library and this SUMMER HEAT IS A KILLER! I'm sure many of you have already felt the sting of the HEAT at some point in time. Anyhow, I'm back for some updates.

For those who read my 2008 Review , you are already a picture similar to this one. This is also another one of my good friends whom I have mentioned in past posts. All three of us have hung out together and vibe really well. This picture was taken in the same location the last one was. I wanted it that way lol. I just know we don't see pics of the SGL community, so I'm grateful to have friends who can help create the ideal at least FOR NOW.

Christmas Break is tentative but Thankgiving is set in stone. I will NOT be coming back home for the remainder of this year. I made that decision based off of some personal drama that honestly has NOTHING to do with ME. I am COUNTING DOWN the days until I LEAVE for school. For those who will be in ATL for LABOR DAY WEEKEND my plans are still being processed but I will be at Piedmont Park and POSSIBLY Lenox Mall so if you are planning to go to either of those places, hit me up BEFORE you come here so we can swap contacts.

While I have been slacking on the reading (Still reading E. Lynn Harris If This World Were Mine)
I did start on character development for my story which I want to form into a novel which I know will get published. I'm at the beginning stages but so far so good. I will show an excerpt from my story sometime in July so please look out for that.

Review of Basketball Jones, NBA Finals Prediction, and thoughts on life.

I just completed E. Lynn Harris latest Novel Basketball Jones and let me tell you, I WAS NOT ANTICIPATING THIS. Now I know that while I still have a few books in his series to still read, I really was shocked to see how the characters Aldridge aka "AJ" and Dray Jones developed. The novel starts out with introducing us to AJ as he tells us about his secret relationship with NBA star Dray Jones. While their relationship was on the DL, that was not the part that really troubled me. I'm sure many of us including myself have fantasized at one time about what it would be like to be with a NBA player.

I was more upset with how the character AJ:
1) Allowed himself to ENDURE with Dray even when he seen that his world with Dray was dwindling.
2) He didn't communicate with Dray at crucial points where he needed to.
3) He was naive enough to allow himself to believe that throughout ALL THE DRAMA, somehow this relationship could work.

It was alot of suspense and climatic moments which made me shake my head in disbelief. I'm thinking to myself...MY BLACK GAY BROTHAS..are we putting ourselves in relationships similar to AJ and acting as if this FANTASY will somehow EVOLVE into a BLOSSOMING relationship?? I don't know. Perhaps some of us have or will. The main question to ask yourself after reading Harris' book would be: WOULD YOU ALLOW YOURSELF TO BE WITH A GUY who puts his reputation before your relationship and YOU BECOME THE SHADOW?

This is indeed something to really think about and tell me your thoughts. Here is another review on the novel that you may want to consider looking at. Should E. Lynn Harris look at a new approach to his novels?? Let me know.

Okay Meanwhile in the NBA,
I am really scared right now for the Cavaliers...I mean at the beginning of the playoffs, we all seen how they wiped out the Atlanta Hawks and then they hit Orlando and its like they have no more power left. I hate to see the Cavaliers go out like this but MANN...

Of course I'm hanging on to my team the LA LAKERS and hope they can win this next game! I know they will have a BATTLE of their own if they face the Magic. Honestly, I did not see the Magic coming through like they have been and wiping everyone away but now I see they are doing quite well. I told myself I don't want to watch the NBA Finals if it is a Nuggets-Magic Final. I WILL STICK TO THAT STATEMENT.

Finally, I have been thinking about my post-grad career (Master's anyway) and I have so far came up with three different locations to find a teaching job and work on my doctorate: NYC
Chicago, or somewhere in California.

I thought of NYC because I wouldn't have to purchase a car and I would hopefully find a decent job at one of the smaller schools there.

The reason I suggested Chicago is because I am an Illinois native, and I have always thought about living there. I could potentially teach there and go to a school like UIC or University of Chicago IF THEY HAVE THAT program. I will have to see if they do.

Somewhere in California because Ive always thought about school out there, I feel like I would see a VERY DIVERSE group of people. I still have to narrow down schools and locations which is why I haven't declared a city yet.

BTW I was think of getting my doctorate in African-American Studies as well BUT thats not set in stone. I am curious about Performance Studies so I'll have to research that information. I apologize for not keeping up with my other bloggers, Im trying to job hunt and as many of you know that is an ongoing process but I will try to comment on my Phone from now on.

Summer Strength,Gay/Bi Retreat

Summer is here. Still looking for employment. Gotta keep the spirits up. I am currently reading E.Lynn Harris Book "Basketball Jones" and will do a review of the book I complete it. My friend went back to Atlanta for summer school and to look for a job. He still has his apartment for the time being but he is planning to move elsewhere for the fall.

Last weekend, I attended a black men's gay/bi retreat which was sponsored by 3MV (Many Men Many Voices) which my good friend from St. Louis was facilitating. Issues surrounding relationships, definition of the terms gay men, black men and black gay men, and the break down of STI's and how STIs can increase chances of getting HIV. I enjoyed hearing stories and sharing my viewpoint among mostly unfamiliar faces. I knew two people once I arrived. You have to understand that in a small town like mine, black gay men do not have places or events to congregate TOGETHER. I really enjoyed hanging out with the fellas at the only "gay/neutral-zone" club in town. Hopefully I will still keep in touch with many of them. Yesterday I seen one of the guys who attended the retreat at the gas station. Its nice to know that there are intelligent, beautiful memembers of SGL community who are willingly to connect with others in the area.

The weather here is beautiful and will remain so for the remainder of the weekend. Tell me what is new with you all? How is your summer treating you?

Hey Everyone! Its been so much going on. The following weekend was 50/50 but Friday I had so an opportunity attend the presentation of my fellow classmates three of which are doctoral students and the other a master's student about some respective issues:

Clark Atlanta University Presents a DAH Program Seminar

Spiritual Time, African American Archetypal Women, Analyses of Two Art Works, and A Study of the Religious Conversion Experiences of Black Males to Afrocentric Religion During Incarceration.

It definitely gave me some insight on what I could do once I finish my coursework and work on my Thesis.

Following the event, there was a tribute to the Late John Hope Franklin
who has contributed ALOT to the black community. I did not know who he was up until the point I got down here. I was amazed being seeing some of the DVD which features Franklin's successes and struggles during the time of segregation. As he has been described by others this man is: A scholar. Educator. Continued Learner. Honest. A foundation upon which many of of black youth can look upon. He contributed to making Black history AMERICAN HISTORY.

On Saturday, the African group Nzinga-Ndugu in which my Professor Daniel Black, author of the Book They Tell Me Of A Home and The Sacred Place is head of, presented the five individuals who were initiated through the process. I really felt the love that encompassed all of those who showed support for the event. I had never been to anything like that before and yet after learning what we did in my Black Aesthetics course, it all makes since. The authentic African dancing, master drummers, the color beads, the way Africans gather in a circle sometimes when performing, and how the women form together separately from the men, it all MADE SENSE. Two of the initiates I had met because they were attending our graduate classes and I had the opportunity to hangout with them at a gathering at my classmates' house. The brotherhood and sisterhood within the dynamics of the group itself was inspiring and I felt apart of something BIGGER than myself. Our people being together like that just brought feel my spirit in a way I have not felt in a long time. The little kids were even involved in the dancing in which they knew the dances. I was out there at one point with my classmate dancing which was really fun. I remember after I had left the event (which had food of course lol), I was walking feeling TALLER AND NO IM NOT MAKING THAT UP.

*Sidenote* In America, you know how we keep African valuables such as masks, drums, etc in our homes? Well in traditional African Aesthetic you destroy masks after you use them in a ceremony. If they are used for a function, Africans have no reason to hold to them.
I didn't have any pictures since I don't have my camera but (then again I dont know if taking pictures would have been appropriate in that setting anyway) but I wanted to at least have a picture that you could look at so you could internalize how African dancing looks like.

B. SCOTT TELLS THE TRUTH about homophobic ignorant individuals who continue to fantasize that ALL GAY MEN want Str8 Men. Aside from the Bow Wow situation, it makes individuals who are so hypersensitive to people WHO ARE NOT LIKE THEM. Real talk people lets grow UP instead of GROWING IN IGNORANCE. Like my friend says, IGNORANCE IS NOT BLISS. Discrimination against others does not solve anything. Nor does name calling PROVE YOU ARE A MAN. This is also in reference to the two 11-year old boys who committed suicide for being bullied and were called "gay."

I had never seen B. Scott discuss issues regarding the LGBT community in this magnitude UNTIL NOW. Please Tell your friends, (I'm already a subscriber to LoveBScott on YouTube) and just check out what he has to say. TRUST ME it is something you do not want to miss out on!

Camera Update: As far as my camera is concerned, I have yet to receive the payment promised by Sony ESP (Extension Service Plan) but I was told by a customer service representative that I do not receive it by tomorrow to give them a call and let me know so they can re-send out the check since I will be returning home for the summer.

In the NBA, For those who have been watching the Playoffs, LA Lakers won their series against the Utah Jazz 4-1. THE SPURS ARE OUT. (SHOCKER) Meanwhile, my favorite team the Boston Celtics clinched the win Last nite to lead The Chicago Bulls 3-2. Even though I'm from Illinois, I'm still going for the NBA champs. Sorry. And I see that the Atlanta Hawks are tied 2-2 in the series against Miami Heat. I probably won't get the chance to watch most of it but I just hope the Celtics win the game tomorrow and I'll be cool with that.

The Life of Blackberry.

This is my new phone and I love it! Unfortunately, what I have to pay is not going to be fun in the long run. Yeah I will just leave it right there. I was back and forth at the two t-mobile stores in Lenox Mall trying to figure out if I wanted to get the Samsung or Blackberry but I finally decided on the Blackberry. That means more time on Faceboook, Twitter, and of course texting like crazy. PLUS ALL THE OTHER features that involves the Blackberry.

This is an old pic I took at Piedmont Park. Since I have not received my reimbursement check yet for my camera, I could not take pics of me and my boi KB. We hung Friday out at the Dogwood Festival this weekend. They had tents full of portraits, paintings, then the vendors were out with tons of food, and MARGARITAS. I got one of those and enjoyed it. I really enjoyed hanging out with my friend. I know he is busy alot working at the airport(along with his second job), and taking care of his husband. These moments are always memorable because those who you love dearly and want to be around the most make a little walk at the park THE MILLION DOLLAR WIN FROM THE LOTTERY.

Meanwhile on Saturday, I hung out with my older friend and we had lunch and chatted about an array of things (i.e.life, guys, my qualifications for a friend, zealous religious weirdos), and people he has counseled since he is a therapist. So overall, the weekend was GRAND.

Phone update: Yeah my phone doesn't work anymore so I made a bid on Ebay for a Blackberry 8320. I have been the bid leader since earlier this morning and I have ten hours left. Have a good Monday!!

Hanging Out With Darian!

I decided yesterday to meet Darian at Outwrite Bookstore. We just chatted a bit about some things, nothing major. The funny thing was when we first got there, these two white Bear Cubs (as I am sure they wouldn't mind being seen as) were trying to talk to us while we were trying to have a conversation. I was thinking to myself "OKAYYYY" but eventually they left. I know Darian is a busy man but I definitely had to make sure I got the opportunity to see him. I wanted to see his husband but he was house-sitting for someone and could not make it. Hopefully I will get to see him on our next meeting.

Camera Update: Yeah so they discontinued the model that I bought at Sony so they are supposed to be reimbursing me (according to the voicemail they left me last week) and I should get it hopefully April 20th. I will call them eventually to verify this is correct information.

Brothas, Lets be supportive of each other and make the best out of the lives that we are living!
